Ironman 70.3 Dallas-Little Elm: Insane Wind and a Canceled Swim

Wind. This day was all about the wind. And a canceled swim.

Race snapshot

  • Race: Ironman 70.3 Dallas-Little Elm
  • Location: Little Elm, Texas, USA
  • Date: March 15, 2026
  • Conditions: Windy with a canceled swim
  • Big storyline: Yeah, not to beat a dead horse…but wind and a canceled swim

The lead-up

We have been a part of this race since just before it was officially announced. We were invited by race director, Nancy Goodnight, to get a sneak peak of the course before the race was publicly announced. That whole process was exciting for us, and we felt a special connection because of it.

For race week, we shared a house with Colin and Katy as well as the best triathlon photographer around: Scott Flathouse. Again, as much as we love racing, it’s these moments that we truly remember and treasure.

What happened on race day

Caitlin and Colin were doing the entire race. Tiffany was going to do the swim portion on a relay team.

Swim

The swim was canceled due to extreme winds and inability to provide sufficient safety and support on the water for athletes.

Bike

The tailwind was great. The course and the roads were nice overall. The headwinds and crosswinds were the big story of the day. White knuckles!

Run

This is a contender for best run course we’ve ever done. Three loops with almost endless crowd support.

Takeaways from this race

  • You never know what you will get when it’s springtime in Texas. At least it wasn’t cold?
  • It was fun to be part of a race from reveal to execution.
  • Sharing these races are always great memories.

The moments that stayed with us

From a gut-punch swim cancellation to a white-knuckle bike, a hard-earned run and a finish line that still felt fully earned, this weekend became about more than results. It became about community, perspective and making the most of the day you’re given. We’re grateful to everyone who stopped us, cheered with us and shared a piece of their story. That’s why we do this, and that’s why this sport is the best.

Would we race it again?

Yes, but we would definitely be nervous about potential weather conditions. The course is great for all abilities, and beginner friendly. The weather at this time of year will always be a wildcard.
