The 2021 Triathlon Season has arrived!
Team Saunders ventured back to the Sunshine State for an intimidating challenge: The Florida Challenge Triathlon – Intimidator 70.3 distance.
The scene was perfect for a race. Clermont, Florida, the World Triathlon Destination has that nickname for a reason. We started with a 1.2 mile swim in beautiful Lake Minneola, then took off for a challenging but exhilarating 56 mile bike course through the Florida Lake Country capped off by a climb up Sugarloaf Mountain, and wrapped it all up with a relatively flat and fast 13.1 mile run along the Clermont Waterfront Park trail.
We had big goals going into the race, but quiet goals, because you never know what will happen on race day.
While we didn’t come close to the times we posted at Challenge Daytona in December, we realized this course was much more intense, and much more satisfying that we came away with several accomplishments on the day. Best of all, we shared it together and celebrated a day and a sport that we love.
